My Current Manuscript And Title Of Novel

Posted by T.S.Garp

This is how my new book (The Doomsday Chronicles) is coming along thus far for this November of 2014. Rewriting pages and editing. I’ve written many fictional stories before and this spy-action-science fiction tale is no different for me. I hope my characters, setting, and premise is grounded enough in this near future reality to be authentic and entertaining. By way of editing some chapters in the book are expanding while others are shortening. This is typical. I write a lot of detail, maybe too much, which is good for the editing process, and helps me to keep the main gist of the story flowing in the right direction. All in all, having a blast - T.S.Garp

Avoid Common Writing Mistakes

Posted by T.S.Garp

In the BookRix’s “Between the Lines” Blog they have a very good article about how to avoid common writing mistakes. A good read and reminder to indie authors breaking into the publishing world who want to make a lasting impression with well edit material, punctuation, consistency, clear writing/dialogue, and book art cover.

New York Times Reviews Self-Published Book

Posted by T.S.Garp

This is great news and about time. Many literary agents know that traditional publishing is going the way of the dinosaur. This comes as a wonderful break through for self-published authors. In 2011 about 40% of books in print were self published. Given that self-published books are becoming more and more professionally designed, edited and proofread helps. Slowly trad publishers are having to yield to NYT for breaking new ground by reviewing self-published books. Thank you New York Times! Read more about this on Book Business.

Dealing With Rejection Notices

Posted by T.S.Garp

Feeling rejected lately as you try to plug your new manuscript to literary agencies. Yes, I understand as I am currently seeking a good publisher for my latest book, and of course gaining my supply of rejection notices. But don't despair my fellow writers, this is quite common, and part of the writing process. Many famous authors in the past have all been rejected at one time or another and the key is to keep going until you are finally published. Erica Verrillo’s blog list some rejection notices from famous authors that should help to inspire writers to never give up.

Know Your Writer’s Market

Posted by T.S.Garp

On the never-ending trek to sell my books its always best to start updating your Writer‘s Market info. What writers out there need to keep focus on: If you have other manuscripts/books that need publication be sure check out the most current list of literary agencies and publication houses. If you already have a book recently published than start developing a powerful word of mouth plan like with a popular social network, create a fan base, search out and discovery more tools to help you with that. Build yourself an author’s website to showcase your books, translating into creating an effective social media strategy, securing more media interviews from clubs, books shops, radio, Internet, Youtube, social writing networks, and utilizing Amazon’s free tools.
The Writer's Market has a lot of new updated books specializing in poetry, songwriting, literary agents, novels, short stories, children's writing, illustration, photography, and design. You can find publishing opportunities in writing by purchasing the Writer's Market, which has thousands of listings for book publishers, magazines, and contests. You can browse their books about writing & design, and gain insider information about the industry.

Writer Unboxed

Posted by T.S.Garp

Another Jabberwocky rant. I stumbled upon this web site via Twitter and looks interesting. “Writer Unboxed” about the craft and business of writing fiction. What caught my eye was the Publicize and Promote Your Book advice. But look around, the site was created by 2 aspiring novelist. This web site is great for tips and writers trying to break into the publishing world. I recommend this site for all aspiring authors and writers.

My E-Book Adventure

Posted by T.S.Garp

You know I almost went with BookBaby, Amazon Kindle Direct, and BookRix to publish my e-books. But the cost per e-book is high, granted if don’t have the time to “do-it-yourself” formatting and so on, than yes, paying up to $300 (per e-book on some sites) might be worth it for their special care service, or spending $100-$150 per e-book for distribution and conversion on more bargain sites, than by all means do so. However.... Read my latest article on Bizcovering.com on finding a reputable eBook conversion service.

Unveiling My New Book Covers

Posted by T.S.Garp

Able to leave a short Jabberwocky rant. Very busy writing and editing these days. Everything is a work in progress and coming along nicely. Many new things are on the horizon and coming soon! A natural progression for a perfectionist like myself. Have recently unveiled my new designs for my book covers. Amazing improvement overall, I must say, much better looking and better marketing tools being utilized. A never-ending process, but well worth it. My new book is coming soon, a non-poetry book. I'm not giving away any details as yet, it is a surprise after all! The new book is based on a fascinating and popular subject, long over due (being edited and perfected). Another completely different book/manuscript is waiting for my much needed attention with further expansion and editing. A rather personal book with mind-alternating concepts and ideas that friends might find interesting. Right now I am heavy into designing new sites and in the re-editing stages of my other manuscripts, trying to entice a good literary agent and/or a good old fashion book publishing company than do a self publishing route. Both options are on the table. Hopefully, many of my new manuscripts will be worthy of representation from a literary agent. Keeping my fingers crossed. Time will tell and I’ll post the outcome. Keep writing and keep dreaming everyone! Verba volant, scripta manent (words fly away, writings remain), carpe diem (seize the day) and carpe noctem (seize the night) - T.S.Garp I am so happy that the books are getting exposure and are now is being marketed in major book stores and in Europe too. The New Book Covers facelift look remarkably better. All my books have been re-edited and expanded recently. Feel free to put in a good word for me or leave a positive rating on any online store you happen to see my books on. Kindle versions are just around the corner, checking on the multiple options there. I am working hard to complete my other non-poetry books that are coming soon! I am blessed to have the opportunity to write and help people through my writing with personal insight, creativity, and information. Thanks to everyone who believes in me. Here are some links to Barnes and Noble and other stores that are selling my books: Barnes & Noble Loves Sages on Amazon Voices of Angels Serenity's Dream Abe Books Powells Books Book A Million

Feeling Like You Missed The Boat On Becoming A Novelist?

Posted by T.S.Garp

Someone asked is it too late to become a novelist? Its never too late, anytime is a good time to become a writer. Yes, the market is changing to more e-books, but books can never die in popularity. Before the age of books, stories and information were passed on by oral tradition. Stony tablets and than paper manuscripts came into existence and a good book can last hundreds, if not thousands of years, and still hold up with rich and valuable information. Our computer age has only made it easier and faster to publish books and general information. There will always be a need for good writers, and books have a very long shelf life and can't breakdown so easily nor be deleted unexpectedly. A good tip is: plan to write your book or novel using both methods for publication. Learn from other writers, read as much as you can, take a writing workshop, join a community of new writers and start writing today! Good luck!- T.S.Garp

Cleaning the Warehouse of My Mind

Posted by T.S.Garp

When the past is the present and the present is the future. I’ve been so busy lately trying to do the very thing I suggested in my articles not to do which is multitasking. Having set my goals and agendas high, breaking the steady repetition of the past and venturing out on new ground (more like embarking on a journey I started many years ago, but somehow had gotten sidetracked), and now presently I’m consumed with various projects which has resulted in neglecting my personal Blog sites.

All my Blogs are getting a maintenance work over and reorganization face-lift. Since I began starting a new company with primarily focusing on photography and writing, I have decided to pursue more book writing projects as well and extend my focus on publishing my works of fiction, poetry, and assorted screenplays to completion. This will impact my writing articles and I have realized just like so many other writers that if you have these particular goals or aspirations like selling a script or finishing up novels, and publishing your manuscripts, it is time to stop procrastinating, and complete these goals and have them fulfilled. There is no time like the present and in the present we make the future. I’ve been living with the old adage “Never put off tomorrow what you can do today“ and never forget your dreams, never lose sight of them, never shut them away, or in time you would loose them, and they will fade away completely.

Several friends of mine used to say, “It is never too late. Never give up.” I totally agree. And never stop dreaming, I say. This present and each moment in this present time is creating the future as we want it to be. I know it is very hard for unsolicited writers or first-time writers to get published, but you might start think about self-publishing as a way to get a jumpstart on your first book. Also seek out publishing companies that have a reputation of being friendly to new writers and novelists. Be your own agent or obtain one through these methods. Read up on the chosen craft that you want to pursue in like writing screenplays and publishing poetry, or any other particular subject that you want to accomplish and succeed in. This particular Blog is geared towards writers and positive thinkers who want to fulfill their lifelong dreams. For all the dreamers out there and writers, poets, novelists, screenwriters, filmmakers, and visual artists, never lose sight of those dreams, and keep working at it, even if you get delayed or diverted, keep pursuing that aim and never stop trying. Your efforts will not be in vain, I guarantee it. Live life to the fullest!

My New Poetry Book

Posted by T.S.Garp

Presenting my first poetry book Voices of Angels. In this short collection of poems it’s all about faith and angels. My spiritual beliefs is a blend of Western and Eastern philosophies, from Buddhism to Christianity, and these poems express the universal belief of angels, having faith, worshiping God, receiving blessings, embracing hope, realizing dreams, experiencing the joy of nature, experiencing great expectations, being aware, and understanding loneliness, sorrow, and pain, the happiness of friends and family, the elation of the seasons and holidays, from uplifting passages and kind words, to the bright burning stars at night, and into the realm of the supernatural divine that surrounds us and protects us throughout our entire life. Voices of Angels sings to our very soul and gives us hope that God and his angels are protecting us with their eternal love.

The Writing Process (15 Things You Need to Know About Writing)

Posted by T.S.Garp

Learn about the writing process and 15 key steps to becoming a more diligent and successful writer. Whether you are starting out as a freelancer or blogger these helpful tips and habits can help you become a better writer.

Quick-start writing sites have sprung up all over the Internet and do deliver exposure to new and old writers alike, but some sites push writers to write more than they are capable of. It is true that the more content you have, the more readership and follower you have, the more income you can make, but some Internet writing sites try to mass produce as much product from the writers they get. The writing process should never be as if you’re stuck on an assembly line, pushing out nameless articles and bits of writing with very little interest involved. Where is the line drawn? Be mindful of Internet Writing sites that want to milk you for all your writing talent that you have.

It is true that in the real-world writing, serious journalistic articles, and writing for newspapers all have deadlines and rules to get the information to the masses as quickly as possible. But times have changed, and we are now living in the information society, conducting business, receiving news, expanding our community, sharing information, connecting our lives more than ever on the World Wide Web. Legitimate freelance writing jobs are everywhere and so are scams. Deadlines and assignments should be completed on time as long as it is legitimate gig and it is worth it.

The writing process for a writer should be enjoyable and not a tedious, forceful effort. When writing becomes stale, mundane, and forced it isn’t a happy situation. All writers have a certain speed in which they are able to write. I personally do my best writing at night, even at midnight, where suddenly I get a burst of energy and ideas that flow much better than they do in the morning. A good imaginative writer can pull themselves together on a short moment’s notice and write something tangible for the reader to enjoy. Some of the best writing happens when you’re “on” and can occur at the oddest times. Be mindful of your mood and feelings as this can play a part in how your writing is expressed. Don’t forget the details, the facts, and the reason why you’re writing in the first place. Make sure it’s enjoyable for the most part.

Prolific writers like Stephen King are very successful in that they’re able to write several books in one year, every year, and not just a casual book, but bestsellers. Nobody becomes a Pulitzer Prize winner overnight. Some writers keep a journal and start by merely wanting to put down their thoughts on paper. Is a very good idea and could be a great start for a writer to begin by expressing themselves about their daily activities and thoughts. This personal diary can easily manifest itself into a book version of their memoirs later in life. Indeed, with today’s technology with e-books and your greatly accumulating writing efforts such as articles, manuscript, screenplays, ideas, and poetry, all have a place to be published either electronically or old-fashioned book publishing.

Another good point is writers need to stick together. Association with other writers can be a great asset and having mentors to help guide you through all the hurdles yet to come. Making friends with other writers can be important collaborative partnership and lifetime friends can easily be made. But be courteous, polite, and open-minded. Don’t force yourself on another writer, be friendly and open to ideas. Because nobody understands a writer better than another writer. The writing life can be an extremely lonely one. You’re sitting in a small room with your pen and paper or in front of your computer and keyboard, trying to hammer out some writing expression that must come out before the end of time or before the hour strikes again. Finding writing support groups, and befriending other writers can greatly motivate and inspire you to write the best you can and as often as you can.

All writers have unique writing styles and habits. Famous writer Kurt Vonnegut had a unique writing style frequently mixing personal experiences, political satire, and science fiction. Some writers do extremely well under pressure while others do not. But most importantly, writers need to be focused with their ideas and their approach on the subject or story that they plan to undertake to completion. Especially new writers need to learn about structure, pacing, flowing, and discover what methods and approach best work for them. Most highly, enjoy the writing that you are doing, and do it well to the best of your knowledge. All writers can stand for room for improvement, and they get that each and every time they write something new every single day and every single moment of their lives.

15 things you need to know about writing:

1. Find your own voice and style.

2. Write about what you know and have an interest in.

3. Don’t be afraid to do the research on a subject you do not know.

4. Make the subject you are writing about interesting and new.

5. Write in an environment you feel comfortable in like at home or a coffee shop.

6. Determine your most favorable time of the day to write, morning, noon, or night.

7. Avoid distractions. Pick an area to write, that is beneficial to your writing process.

8. Have a plan and a general idea of what you’re going to write about. An outline.

9. Try to work at a pace that you’re suited for, take small steps, and gradually work your way up to speed. Written articles and manuscripts that looked hastily put together tend to look rushed and often get rejected.

10. Screenplays and book manuscripts often get rewritten several times, as suggested by producers, editors or publishers who want the best quality of work, and doing a rewrite is standard practice. Some articles can be done in one sweep, while other articles might take longer and should be rewritten or edited for structure, spelling, and grammar errors.

11. Be diligent and persistent with your writing.

12. Find a mentor or writing social group for support and ideas.

13. Be observant of other writers that are already successful and learn from them.

14. Write more than you need. Have plenty of detail and know that you can leave some out in the course of editing.

15. Keep your passion alive and go for it! Have confidence in yourself and believe in yourself.
